Major Crisis in Flint Michigan

By President Eric Barksdale |  April 3, 2016

To all Pastors, Churches and constituent members of NCBC including Potomac River Baptist Association:

Grace, peace and mercy from God our Father and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

An old familiar hymn of the church reminds us:

If I can help somebody as I travel along,
If I can help somebody with a word or a song,
If I can show somebody where there traveling wrong,
Then my living shall not be in vain...

I do come before with a cry of helping our brothers and sisters as they confront a major crisis in Flint, Michigan.  As you have heard over the last few months many people who live in that city do not even have the basic necessity of water, which is a staple in our everyday living.

I am asking each of our churches of NCBC including our sister churches of the Potomac River Baptist Association to put our hands on the plow and to provide a minimum of 10 cases of water.  I know that some can do 20, 40, 60 even 100 cases but whatever you can do, please help.  I am also asking each of our Auxiliaries Presidents to do your part.

Our immediate Past President, Dr. Welton Fields, Jr., and the Southern Friendship Missionary Baptist Church have provided the necessary space to store the water until we truck it up to Flint.  This campaign will start on tomorrow, April 3rd and will continue through Friday, May 20th.  We will load the truck during the week of May 23rd and get it to them by the end of the week.

We have been in touch with the National Baptist leadership in Flint and they are already grateful for our help and assistance.  If you would like to also provide a financial blessing please write your check to NCBC and note "Flint Water Crisis" in the memo area and send it to our Treasurer, Sister Peggy Carter Wallace at P. O. Box 72 Lanham, MD 20703.  We will make note of your gift and take one combined check from NCBC to the National Baptist State Convention in Flint.

If you have any questions, please contact our Home Mission Director, Pastor Charles E. Cato, Sr., at (301) 613-2158 cell or email at cchrl361@aol.com.  I can be reached at (301) 467-2497 cell or at ncbcpresident@comcast.net

NCBC has been a Convention that has helped over the years - from New Orleans, Alabama / Mississippi, New York / New Jersey, and last year South Carolina.  We're just following the mandate of our God - you have done it before, please do it again!

In closing I'll remind us that the Apostle Paul said in Galatians 6:9-10, "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.  Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith."
