Tips on Finding a Job

DID YOU KNOW, there are several tips for our membership to consider when looking for the next job opportunity:

DO'S

  • Include a cover letter with your resume to articulate why you're a fit for the position to which you've applied.
  • Showcase your accomplishments on your resume, not just your job duties.
  • Answer questionnaire questions in complete sentences with sufficient detail. This is an opportunity for you to stand out from other applicants.
  • Research the company to which you have applied to find out more about them.
  • Verify the legitimacy of the employer before submitting any information to them.

DON'TS

  • Don't sloppily apply for jobs. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right; so take the time to proofread, capitalize, and make your application look professional.
  • Don't give out your social security number or other vital information to a company over the phone or in an email.
  • Some jobs require more information than others, such as a driver's license. Don't provide this information until you have interviewed face-to-face and have accepted a job offer.
  • Never provide your bank account information, credit card information, or a utility bill in an employment application.
  • Don't be lured into paying upfront fees or making a required purchase to get the job.
  • Don't transfer money, accept products for re-shipping, or conduct business transactions on behalf of foreign companies promising business opportunities.

Finding a great job is a rewarding experience that can be challenging at times.

May the Lord continue to smile upon you.
