Rafe M Taylor Scholarship
Overview
The National Capital Congress of Christian Education's membership
is comprised of churches, their Sunday School and Christian Education
Programs. The Scholarship program was established at the recommendation
of the Resolution Committee during the Annual Spring Training Session
in May 1976. In 1992, the scholarship award was named in honor of the
late Pastor, Dr. Rafe M. Taylor, Mount Airy Baptist Church, Washington,
DC.
Purpose
The main purpose of the National Capital Congress of
Christian Education to provide opportunities for delegates to broaden
their knowledge of the Word of God, to train lay and professional
persons in the church for leadership responsibilities, to enable church
leaders in discharge their responsibilities with greater skill competence
and confidence, to improve the quality of the work of Christian
Education, to promote and upgrade the quality of service to church
leaders.
Goal
The Scholarship Committee's goal is to annually award
to a qualifying recipients, a scholarship, and to motivate them to
actively participate in the work of the congress.
Recipients are selected based upon the following criteria:

Applicant must be between the ages of 17 and 25 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent, and has been accepted to or matriculating in an institution of higher learning.

Applicant must be a member of a church currently in good standing with the Congress

Applicant must submit a letter of recommendation from their Pastor

Applicant must have participated during the year in some congress and/or other religious training. For other religious training, please submit a statement on official letterhead.

Applicant must complete and return the attached application and essay by the deadline. (Special attention will be given to the essay).

Applicant must produce a letter of acceptance to an institution of higher learning prior to receiving the award.
